Ever wonder what it is that actually makes a camera work? This tutorial will
cover the inner workings of a camera, and introduce you into photography
basics and the expansive world of taking better photographs.
To take beautiful photographs you do not need an expensive camera and a
bag full of equipment. What is important is the photographer's ability to see
his/her surrounding and use knowledge and personal feel for the subject.
Being the first article in a series, this lesson is meant to only cover the
basics of photography. The idea with this series is to get people more
interested in photography, awaken creativity and hopefully help people
enjoy this hobby even more. The community here at Tutorial9 is an
important part of this series and I would love to hear your feedback and
questions. Digital photo enthusiasts are busy inventing new uses that are making
digital cameras the visual equivalent of e-mail.
Remember the last time you showed up somewhere hours late because you
were stuck in frustrating gridlock, only to have some wise guy ask, "What
took you so long?" With a digital camera you can prove your plight, and
maybe get a little sympathy to boot. Just turn on your camera and scroll

through the images you took of the never-ending lines of traffic, the
massively crowded parking lot, or the hopelessly flat tire. Granted, it's not
easy to get a good shot of an empty gas tank, but you get the general idea.
This is just one of boundless opportunities for putting your camera to
practical, creative, and unique uses-shooting images you'd probably not
consider taking with a film-based camera. Digital photo enthusiasts are busy inventing new uses that are making digital cameras the visual equivalent of
e-mail.
Remember, you're not paying for film, so you can shoot and reshoot until
you have the image you want. For many of the ideas in this article, the
image doesn't have to be perfect, only usable. And you don't have to print
the images-just post them online, send them in e-mail, or keep them on
your computer's hard drive or on CD-ROM. "They'll never believe it ... "
Taking your digital camera to a group party may not sound either creative or
unusual, but consider a recent group bowling party where our production
lead's score far outdistanced any score she'd gotten bowling with her
significant other. She kept mumbling, "He'll never believe this." So, we used
our digital camera to take frequent pictures of Mary and the overhead
scoreboard. He believes it now.
Visual instructions
For every guy in a garage busily taking things apart-like old cars or clocks-a
digital camera is the indispensable tool for recording just where everything
was before you took it apart.
